One of the most beloved Chinese movie songs, “Big Fish” from the animated film Big Fish & Begonia, has once again captured public attention after the remarkable story behind its recording resurfaced online.

Back in 2016, the directors of Big Fish & Begonia approached singer Zhou to record a demo version of the song.

At the time, he was not yet selected as the official vocalist. The demo was intended solely as a reference track for the production team.

Determined to deliver the best possible performance, Zhou Shen recorded the demo under a blanket to reduce background noise and improve audio quality.

The unusual setup left him sweating heavily, but he remained focused on perfecting the song.

His effort paid off. After listening to the demo, the filmmakers were deeply impressed by his unique voice and emotional delivery.

The team ultimately chose Zhou Shen as the official singer of “Big Fish” a decision that would help transform the song into one of the most iconic Chinese film soundtracks of the decade.

Speaking in a previous interview with CCTV News’ Face to Face, Zhou Shen recalled how seriously he approached the project.

He practiced repeatedly and spent days immersed in the song because he felt responsible for meeting the expectations of those who trusted him.

The recording process was equally demanding. Zhou Shen revealed that he spent three days continuously refining the track in the studio, striving to achieve the highest possible quality.

In a separate interview with People’s Daily, the singer shared why “Big Fish” continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.

He explained that every performance brings new emotions, allowing him to connect his personal experiences with the song’s message. (Overseasidol.com)
