Chinese drama The Second Life, a legal series centered on juvenile prosecution, officially announced its cast lineup on June 15, 2026.

Starring Huang Xuan and Ma Baiquan, the series quickly became a hot topic, not only for its compelling storyline but also for how the actors’ names were presented in the official credits.

The production listed Huang Xuan and Mark Ma as lead actors on separate lines.

However, the arrangement does not fully comply with China’s upcoming actor credit regulations, which are set to take effect on July 10, 2026.

The series offers an emotional story that explores justice, family, and second chances for troubled youth.

Huang Xuan stars as Huang Zhengfei, a compassionate prosecutor dedicated to protecting minors and helping them rebuild their lives.

Ma Baiquan plays Bai Dongyang, a gifted teenager with Asperger’s syndrome who possesses exceptional analytical and computer skills.

Despite his talents, he struggles with emotional barriers and unresolved experiences from his past.

Together, the two characters navigate complex cases involving young people while examining the balance between legal principles and human compassion.

The drama aims to deliver a powerful message that every young person deserves an opportunity to start over.

Directed by Wan Li and written by Chi Yicheng, The Second Life is produced by Dun Qi and Li Guangsen. The series will stream exclusively on Youku. (Overseasidol.com)
