Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai drew attention at the 28th SIFF after taking on a new role as the Chair of the Golden Goblet Awards main competition jury for the first time.
Speaking during a media session, Leung compared his transition from actor to jury president to moving from being a chef to becoming a food critic.
“In the past, I cooked for others. Now it’s my turn to taste what others have created, viewing films with an open mind and from the perspective of an ordinary audience member,” he said.
The veteran actor also shared his views on the rising popularity of short-form dramas and streaming content.
Rather than seeing the trend as a challenge to traditional filmmaking, Tony Leung believes it gives audiences more viewing options.
