On June 16, 2026, Grammy organizers officially revealed a new category, “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” which will debut at the 69th Grammy Awards in 2027.
The new award aims to recognize the growing global influence of Asian pop music and will honor outstanding performances by solo artists or groups across various genres, including K-pop, J-pop, C-pop, and other Asian pop styles.
According to the official guidelines, eligibility will not be determined by an artist’s nationality or ethnicity.
Instead, the category will focus on whether the submitted work fits the Asian pop genre and features substantial use of at least one Asian language.
The addition of this category marks a significant step toward expanding Asian representation at one of the world’s most prestigious music awards ceremonies.
Over the past decade, Asian pop music has experienced remarkable international growth, attracting massive fan communities and reshaping the global music landscape.
In today’s C-Pop music industry, there are many renowned musicians with popular works, such as Lay, Jackson Wang, Ashin, Jay Chou, JJ Lin, Jolin Tsai, Cai Xukun, Zhou Shen, Liu Yuning, Ju Jingyi, and Mao Buyi.
As for music groups, TNT, T.O.P, SNH48, R.E.D, Way V, and BOYSTORY are enriching the diversity of C-Pop with their international fan bases.
C-Pop is expected to be part of Grammy for the first time with songs spanning various genres. (Overseasidol.com)
