Chinese actor Neo Hou, also known as Hou Minghao, recently opened up about his long-standing passion for music while responding to discussions about actors crossing over into the music industry.
In a recent interview, Neo emphasized that music is not a side project or a new experiment for him. Instead, he described it as an essential part of his life.
The star revealed that he began learning to sing at the age of five and started studying the accordion a year later.
His passion for music led him to join a choir and pursue formal vocal training throughout his school years.
Neo Hou explained that his vocal talent played an important role in his education, and he continued studying classical singing techniques, including bel canto, during middle and high school.
Long before becoming a successful actor, Neo Hou had already built a foundation in music.
At the age of 15, he was selected as a trainee candidate for a lead vocalist position at South Korea’s SM Entertainment.
He officially debuted as a singer in 2014 as a member of the group Fresh Geek Youth.
However, changes in the Chinese entertainment industry eventually shifted his focus toward acting.
Despite his success on screen, Neo Hou said he never gave up on music.
He continues to train regularly and has performed live at various music festivals and concert tours.
His recent appearance on Singer 2026 has drawn praise for his vocal control, smooth mixed voice technique, and emotional delivery.
“Music has been my dream since childhood, and it’s an unfinished dream,” Neo Hou said. (Overseasidol.com)
