Overseasidol.com — Leading Chinese production company Youhug Media has officially introduced two AI digital performers, Qin Lingyue and Lin Xiyan, marking a new step in the integration of artificial intelligence within the entertainment industry.
The announcement was made on the afternoon of March 18, with both virtual artists presenting their roles in the upcoming AI-driven drama series Qinling.
Alongside the reveal, the two AI characters also launched their own social media accounts to interact with audiences and share insights into their “work” and daily activities as digital entertainers.
However, the response from netizens has been mixed. Some viewers commented that Qin Lingyue bears a resemblance to actor Zhai Zilu, while Lin Xiyan was said to look similar to actresses Liang Jie, Zhao Jinmai, and Zhang Zifeng.
Several users even tagged Zhao Jinmai’s studio online, urging them to take action over the alleged likeness.
Beyond comparisons, some internet users expressed discomfort with the visual style of AI performers.
Comments described the digital characters as “unnerving” due to their lifelike yet artificial expressions, while others questioned the long-term impact of AI technology on the film and television industry.
Founded as a major player in high-quality drama production, Youhug Media is known for popular series such as CrossFire and The Ideal City.
The company’s business spans content creation, production, talent management, and idol development, with artists including Zhang Meng and Luo Yizhou under its roster.
