Overseasidol.com — The ongoing military draft-dodging scandal in Taiwan has entered a new phase, sparking widespread attention across the entertainment industry.
On October 21, 2025, several Taiwanese media outlets reported that prosecutors had launched a third wave of investigations, summoning multiple celebrities for questioning.
Among those reportedly involved are Chen Bolin, Xiu Jiekai, they alleged to have illegally avoided mandatory military service.
After reviewing additional evidence, prosecutors summoned the individuals involved for formal questioning earlier today.
The scandal first surfaced during an August 2025 court hearing involving actor Wang Dalu (Darren Wang).
In court, prosecutors revealed a conversation between Wang and a friend, in which they discussed ways to evade the draft.
The friend advised Wang to prepare one year’s worth of medical and health records to claim exemption and mentioned he could ask Chen Bolin and Chen Lingjiu for more details.
Wang reportedly suffered a previous bone injury, which was being considered as a potential excuse for draft exemption through X-ray results.
According to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office, investigators have now identified 92 cases with similar patterns, all potentially linked to falsified medical reports and exemption claims.
Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior has since emphasized that military service is a matter of national fairness and duty, warning that any individual who fabricates documents, issues false diagnoses, or assists in evading military obligations will face prosecution under the Criminal Act on Military Service Offenses, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
“The integrity of Taiwan’s conscription system must be upheld. No citizen including entertainers or medical staff is above the law,” the ministry stated.
