Overseasidol.com — The heartfelt drama movie “Mostly Sunny”, written by Wei Shujun and Zhai Yixiang, and directed by Wei Shujun, officially premiered in China on October 25, 2025.

The film stars Huang Xiaoming, Lu Xiaofen, and Zu Feng, delivering a deeply emotional story about love, faith, and the pursuit of hope amid despair.

“Sunshine Club” follows the story of Wu You (played by Huang Xiaoming), a middle-aged man with the innocence of a child.

Despite his simple-minded nature, he lives happily with his cheerful mother, Shen Liping (portrayed by Lu Xiaofen).

When he joins a motivational organization called the Sunshine Club and becomes a senior partner, tragedy strikes — his mother is diagnosed with a severe illness.

While his older brother Wu Di (Zu Feng), a doctor, seeks medical solutions, Wu You believes in miracles.

He sets out on a journey to bring light into his mother’s life, convinced that sunshine can heal the soul.

The film premiered to strong acclaim, earning Huang Xiaoming the Best Actor Award at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival in June 2024, where it was part of the Golden Goblet Award main competition.

Later that year, it was screened at the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival under the World Focus section, marking its international debut.

Huang Xiaoming’s transformation for the role drew significant attention. He reportedly gained 30 pounds and altered his appearance to fully embody the character of Wu You, displaying remarkable dedication to his craft.

In September 2025, his performance earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 38th Golden Rooster Awards, solidifying his reputation as one of China’s most respected actors.

“Mostly Sunny” resonated deeply with audiences, grossing 2.04 million yuan on its opening day. With its touching message about hope, family bonds, and the miracle of love, the film continues to spark conversations about the meaning of happiness and resilience in modern life.
