Overseasidol.com — On April 12, a video clip featuring an interview with Thai-Chinese actress Zheng Naixin, also known as Nene Pornnappan, went viral and sparked heated debate online.
The former member of BonBon Girls 303 appeared on a livestream show in Thailand, during which a comment about public toilets in China became the focal point of controversy.
During the broadcast, the host remarked, “Many Thai people think Chinese toilets are dirty,”.
In response, Nene laughed and referenced a trip to Harbin, saying, “Didn’t you experience that when you went to Harbin?,”.
Her reaction drew criticism from some viewers, despite the host’s attempt to steer the conversation in a more neutral direction by clarifying that not all Chinese toilets are unclean and that public restrooms in shopping malls, for example, are often very sanitary.
However, Nene seemed skeptical and visibly confused. She continued by expressing frustration, saying she genuinely tried to understand the behavior but could not comprehend why some people neglect to flush after using the toilet.
“We’re all women, so why don’t we just press the flush button?,” she questioned.
The clip quickly trended online and topped search charts, dividing public opinion.
Some netizens agreed with her observations, pointing out that certain public toilets in China are indeed unhygienic.
Others defended the country, arguing that cleanliness varies everywhere and that it was unfair of her to generalize.
Many Chinese netizens expressed disappointment, especially given Zheng Naixin’s rise to fame in China.
Some criticized her harshly, accusing her of turning against the country that supported her career, with one viral comment comparing her to “someone eating from a bowl while cursing the one who served it,”.
Zheng Naixin first gained popularity in China in 2020 after competing in the survival show CHUANG 2020, where she became a member of the girl group BonBon Girls 303.
