Overseasidol.com — Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Jing has recently stirred public discussion after sharing his views on the cause of death of late Cantopop icon Danny Chan in a video interview.
According to Wong Jing, Danny Chan’s passing had no connection to past speculation about his relationship with socialite Pansy Ho.
Instead, he claimed the singer accidentally fell into a coma in 1992 after taking sleeping pills together with alcohol, which eventually led to progressive brain failure and his death.
Wong Jing also pointed to the intense career pressure Danny Chan faced during the early 1990s.
At the time, the rise of the “Four Heavenly Kings” including stars like Jacky Cheung, reportedly caused his music popularity and concert attendance to decline.
Describing Danny Chan as a perfectionist, Wong Jing suggested that the singer had been under prolonged psychological stress.
He also mentioned that false rumors about the artist’s health in the mid-1980s further affected his mental well-being, leading to increasing reliance on alcohol and sleeping medication.
Dany passed away prematurely at the height of his career on October 25, 1993.
