However, 17 years later, veteran Hong Kong director Wong Jing has presented a different perspective through a recently released video.
Wong Jing questioned how a technician could have known about the existence of such private files.
He argued that it would be extremely difficult to locate sensitive images among countless files without prior knowledge. In his view, the search would require clear direction.
He suggested that the source of the leak may have originated from Edison Chen himself during his younger years.
Wong Jing speculated that Edison might have casually shown or talked about the photos with friends during private gatherings or moments of excitement.
Those conversations could have spread quickly among acquaintances.
According to Wong Jing, such information may have eventually reached the computer technician.
This would explain how the technician knew exactly where to look while repairing the device.
He believes this chain of events ultimately led to the photos being recovered and leaked. Wong Jing described it as a common outcome of youthful pride and the desire to show off success.
Despite his bold theory, Wong Jing also shared his personal impression of Edison Chen.
He recalled Edison as a polite and well-mannered actor. During their collaborations, Edison was professional and never caused trouble on set.
When the scandal first broke, Wong Jing admitted he did not believe it. He initially thought the images were fabricated to harm Edison’s reputation.
His opinion changed only after he saw photos of Gillian Chung, an actress he had worked with many times.
