Overseasidol.com — Chinese actress Xin Zhilei has spoken out regarding the recent controversy surrounding her new film “The Sun Rises on Us All” and her Venice Film Festival Best Actress win.
In a lengthy post on November 7, Xin addressed criticism of a particular scene in which her character pulls another woman’s hair.
She explained that the scene was only a small part of the movie and urged viewers to understand the full story before judging.
Responding to accusations that her award was “manipulated” Xin questioned the logic behind such claims.
“I really don’t know who supposedly ‘operates’ these awards. Who do I contact? Do I pay money? If it could be arranged, why did it take 14 years for me to ‘get operated’ into a Venice Best Actress? And why me, not someone else?,” she wrote.
Xin ended her statement by saying she would cherish the trophy but not dwell on it. “I’ll keep the award properly, then let it go and move forward,” she said.
The controversy began after a screenshot allegedly from actress Hao Lei’s social media circulated online, questioning the award’s credibility with the remark, “If pulling someone’s hair can win a Best Actress award at Venice, what’s the value of that title anymore?,”.
Despite the criticism, many fans have continued to defend Xin, praising her dedication and emotional depth in the film.
