Taiwanese singer-songwriter Eric Chou has become the latest celebrity whose identity was allegedly used in a long-running online scam.

The incident came to light after his management company, Star Planet Entertainment, released an official statement denying any involvement in a case that reportedly caused significant financial losses to a fan from South Korea.

According to the company, a South Korean female fan recently contacted them through email, claiming she had been communicating online with someone who identified himself as Eric Chou between 2021 and 2025.

During that period, the individual allegedly requested money on multiple occasions, citing various personal reasons and financial difficulties.

Believing she was speaking directly with the popular singer, the fan reportedly transferred a total of approximately $72k USD over the course of five years.

She also provided screenshots and communication records, insisting that the person she had been interacting with was the real Eric.

After reviewing the information, Star Planet Entertainment confirmed that Eric Chou had no connection whatsoever to the incident.

The company believes the case was likely carried out by an individual who deliberately impersonated the artist to gain the victim’s trust and obtain money.

Management advised the fan to report the matter to local authorities so that a formal investigation could be launched and the responsible party could be identified.

The company also warned fans about the growing risks of AI-powered scams.

With modern technology capable of replicating voices, images, and video appearances, fraudsters can create highly convincing impersonations of celebrities and public figures.

Star Planet Entertainment urged fans to remain cautious whenever they receive requests involving loans, investments, money transfers, or personal financial transactions.

The company emphasized that all suspicious communications should be carefully verified before any action is taken. (Overseasidol.com)
