Chinese actress Yang Zi has once again captured public attention after winning Best Actress at the 31st Magnolia Awards for her role as Bai Ju in the drama Born to Be Alive.
Following her victory, online discussions shifted to her birth name.
Some internet users questioned why she no longer uses her original name, while fans explained that she officially changed it when she was still in elementary school.
According to widely shared information, Yang Zi was originally named Yang Ni’ao.
Her father reportedly chose the name in celebration of his hope that China would successfully host the Olympic Games.
However, she later legally changed her name to Yang, which now appears on her official identification documents and academic certificates.
Yang Zi once shared the story during a conversation with actor Ren Jialun.
She recalled signing her classmates’ notebooks with her birth name when she was in elementary school.
Ren jokingly said that her classmates were probably excited to own Yang Zi’s autograph, only to discover that the signature actually read “Yang Ni’ao”. (Overseasidol.com)
