Overseasidol.com — CCTV has officially introduced its latest rural revitalization-themed drama, Under the Yellowberry Tree, during a special creators’ meeting held on January 5.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Dawang Mountain National Forest Park in Yunan County, the event reflected the warmth and authenticity that define the series itself.
Hosted by He Xiaolei from CCTV’s Rural Assistance initiative, the gathering brought together chief director Zhao Huifeng and lead actors Zhang Dongsheng, SNH48’s Song Xinran, and Zhang Jiongmin.
The team shared insights into the creative process and the inspiration behind a story rooted in real-life rural experiences and emotional healing.
The 20-episode drama follows Huang Xiaoxi, a young urban professional who returns to her hometown after struggling with physical and emotional exhaustion in the city.
Seeking rest and recovery, she gradually finds comfort in familiar landscapes, heartfelt human connections, and the slower pace of rural life.
While back home, Huang Xiaoxi meets Chen Liyu, a cultural officer tasked with reconnecting her grandfather, a master of the traditional Helou dance, with local heritage initiatives.
With Chen Liyu’s encouragement, she embarks on a new journey by opening a yellowberry-based beverage business, rediscovering her sense of purpose along the way.
Through Huang Xiaoxi’s perspective, the series weaves together stories of cultural preservation, three generations of family bonds, rural entrepreneurship, friendship, gentle romance, and the human warmth found among fishermen along the Xijiang River.
