Overseasidol.com — The International Olympic Committee has officially announced that Shanghai will host the Olympic Qualifier Series for the 2028 Olympic Games.
This decision highlights Shanghai’s growing role as a major hub for international sporting events.
Shanghai previously hosted the inaugural edition of the event in 2024, which was widely considered a success.
During that event, Chinese actor and singer Wang Yibo served as the promotional ambassador and performed the official theme song titled “Jumping Shanghai”.
The upbeat and vibrant track aimed to inspire young people to engage in sports and celebrate an active lifestyle.
Beyond his musical performance, Wang Yibo also showcased his passion for street culture by participating in dance performances alongside extreme sports enthusiasts.
His involvement significantly boosted public interest and reflected the rising popularity of urban sports among young audiences in China.
For the 2028 edition, the Olympic Qualifier Series will feature six sports disciplines.
BMX freestyle, sport climbing, and skateboarding will return after their successful debut, while 3×3 basketball, beach volleyball, and flag football will be newly included in the lineup.
