Overseasidol.com — Wang Yiren, a member of the K-pop girl group EVERGLOW, recently sparked widespread discussion after revealing on the fan communication platform Bubble that she has not received any salary since her debut, even after six years of activities.
She shared her love for performing on stage, but admitted that in reality, the group has not gone through any revenue settlement so far.
She explained that the company has not distributed any earnings to the members because all income has been used to cover training expenses and initial investments made by the agency.
Despite this, she expressed her continued dedication to the profession and her appreciation for being able to stand on stage and see her fans, known as FOREVER.
Fans were shocked by the revelation and voiced concerns over the idol system, criticizing the lack of financial returns for hardworking artists.
Comments ranged from sympathy for the group to criticisms of the entertainment industry’s treatment of idols.
In response, Yuehua Entertainment CEO Du Hua addressed the issue during a recent variety show. She stated that the reason Wang Yiren has not received any pay is due to the high investment costs at the time of her debut, which have yet to be recouped by the company.
Fellow member Vivi Chen Xinwei confirmed she was in a similar situation, to which Du Hua jokingly responded that Chen’s investment was even higher.
